What is Kaltura and Zoom?

Kaltura is Penn State’s enterprise-level, cloud-based media management platform for storing, publishing, and streaming videos, video collections, and other media, such as images and audio files. With Kaltura, all faculty, staff, and students can create, share, and collaborate on rich media. Kaltura works in tandem with Zoom, the University’s conferencing system, to enhance Penn State’s live-streaming and media management capabilities.

What is Changing?

After a multi-year project to find a media management and streaming platform and video service, the University will fully transition from Adobe Connect to Zoom and Kaltura by May 2019. Overview of how Kaltura and Zoom are replacing Adobe Connect

How are Kaltura and Zoom Different from Adobe Connect?

While Adobe Connect shares certain web conferencing and media management features with both Zoom and Kaltura, Kaltura provides richer media management tools, a more robust integration with Canvas, and an integration with Zoom that automates media management workflows by automatically publishing Zoom cloud recordings directly to your private media repository in Kaltura.

Kaltura's Integration with Canvas

  • Create video via webcam or screen capture using Kaltura Capture, Kaltura’s screen and webcam recorder.
  • Add pre-existing video from your personal files and even YouTube.
  • Share media with students in the course Media Gallery.
  • Embed media in a discussion forum or announcement.
  • Assess student work with video assignments and interactive video quizzes.

Kaltura's Integration with Zoom

  • With the Kaltura integration, all your Zoom cloud recordings are automatically uploaded to Kaltura.
  • This allows you to edit and share all your Zoom cloud recordings from your My Media page in Kaltura.
